I am afraid....it might happen!

Thinking strange thoughts and being afraid of them is quite common nowadays, but how do you deal with them?

Lord Krishna said in the Bhagavad Gita, "Don't worry about the future because it is out of your control, and don't cry over the past because it is already gone." But we humans can't help but worry about the future, which is why we ruin what we live. Now, I understand that it is much easier to say than to do.

I'm afraid this will happen, and if it does, what will I do? It will be extremely detrimental to my life, friendships, and myself!!!

Have you ever had this thought? If so, my friend, this blog is just for you!

Let's begin with the story of a young girl who is fortunate to have a wonderful home, parents, and friends. She has everything, but the one thing she felt as she grew up was wrong and negative thoughts that keep coming to her. She didn't understand them at first, but it became clear that even if it was a minor incident, she would magnify it in her mind, think about it, and worry about it for days until nothing happened.

You might think she did something wrong now. Ahh! No, listen to the story first.

Example 1: She met a guy in a lift, he asked her about some strange details, and she gave them - nothing personal, just general - but she became afraid, maybe he can come anytime now that he knows where I live, maybe he will stalk me!

Example 2: She had a common fight with one of her friends and said some harsh words while saying she didn't give it a single thought, but when she returns home - she will think that maybe her friends will group up and avoid her, she will never be able to apologise, she will always be alone, and nobody will understand her.

Example 3: Her boss just told her that her raise will be contingent on the project or presentation she is working on; she will be worried for hours about what if it goes wrong. What if he simply requested that I resign?

Thoughts, thoughts and more thoughts...

Yeah, you get her; she overthinks and stresses herself out over trivial matters in life when she could focus on actual problems rather than creating new ones. But, from her perspective, she is afraid that if that happens, it will be wrong!

Because as she looked around and heard about incidents, she began to believe that if it could happen to others, it could also happen to her. It's fine to be afraid and fear things, but is it okay to worry about such insignificant incidents and later regret them, leaving you stressed for the entire week? No, I don't believe so.

Yes! There are bad people and bad incidents that happen every day around the world. We may learn about it from the newspaper, the radio, or a biopic or documentary, but all we need to do is be aware of it and be alert. But dwelling on such incidents, or even may be incidents that are bigger than what I just described in the story, will only make you more anxious and tired throughout the day.

Yes, it happened; what will you do now?

Yes, that friend never spoke to you again, so what are you going to do? Will you just stop living? Maybe that guy stalked you; will you just run from such people your entire life, or will you rely on others to protect you? What if your boss has just asked you to resign?

If something is meant to happen, it will!

Stop overthinking and live in the now. You fought with your friend, so come home & calm yourself for 24 hours and apologise. If your boss had asked you to give a presentation, use all of your skills to make it the best it can be, and if a guy is stalking you, just go complain about it; stop relying on negative ideas since they will destroy your entire day, and only you will be accountable for that.

Thinking about it will only make things worse in your mind, you will never be prepared. You will only be afraid all your life.

Once my aunt told me, that Pooja don't think about it negatively before it begins, you never know it might turn out better than you ever imagine it to be and if it doesn't it will be learning. First, I used to think maybe she is just saying that but when my life went haywire and I didn't know what was happening around me, this helped me understand that problem is not even that big, that I can't deal with it. I can and I did.

So you are the only one who has power over your thoughts and emotions and can make any difficulty in your life bigger or smaller. So, believe in yourself! because you understand yourself better than anyone else in your life!

It's your life; live it!
